SAFEGUARDING COMMITMENT OF ARCHDIOCESE OF BRISBANE
The Archdiocese has zero tolerance for all forms of abuse & is committed to safeguarding everyone involved in its activities, ministries & services. The safety & wellbeing of children & adults-at-risk is paramount.

Each Parish in the Archdiocese of Brisbane has a Local Safeguarding Representative who is responsible for:
  1. Making sure that the whole parish is aware of the importance of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
  2. Promoting safe practices including articulating for others what is appropriate and inappropriate behaviour; and
  3. Assisting the Parish Priest in the implementation of the Archdiocese of Brisbane Safeguarding Policy in the Parish.

As a mother, safeguarding in the Catholic Church is not just a policy issue—it’s deeply personal. When I bring my children to church, I want it to be a place of trust, growth, and spiritual formation. I entrust them to the care of the community, with the expectation that they will be protected, nurtured, and safe. The Church, as a spiritual home, must reflect the values of love, dignity, and accountability. That’s why safeguarding is so vital—it’s not just about procedures, but about building a culture where every child is genuinely respected and secure.

Safeguarding efforts must be transparent, proactive, and uncompromising. This includes rigorous background checks, regular training for the ministry and volunteers, clear reporting mechanisms, and a zero-tolerance approach to any form of abuse.

More than anything, I want my children to grow up in a Church that reflects the love of Christ—not just in words, but in actions. Safeguarding is about ensuring that love takes practical form: in vigilance, in justice, and in care. As a mother, I will continue to advocate for strong protections, not only for my own children but for every child in the Church. It’s our collective responsibility to ensure that the Church is truly a sanctuary—safe, compassionate, and accountable—for the most vulnerable among us.
